Frequently Asked Questions
How does it work?
Put simply, we come to you in our state-of-the-art mobile vet practice (our Doorstep Vet Van!).
To maximise time with you and your pet, we call you whilst we’re en route to your appointment so that you can get your pet ready for our visit – dogs should be on leads and cats/small animals adequately confined.
Our standard approach is to examine patients in the van’s consulting room although we recognise that in some circumstances this may not possible and we can discuss other arrangements with you if needed.

Which areas do you visit?
We are currently accepting visits in most areas of Newcastle and the Tyne valley, including (but not limited to) Gosforth, Great Park, Ponteland, Corbridge, Hexham, Whitley Bay and Tynemouth.
This is continuously under review so watch this space.

How do I book an appointment?
We are normally on the road seeing patients during working hours. so please bear with us if your call isn’t answered immediately.
For non-urgent matters please e mail us at hello@doorstep.vet or text 07939 932903; we aim to respond to all enquiries within 24 working hours.

What about medications and prescriptions?
We carry a good stock of commonly used medicines and can order in specific medications and larger quantities upon request.
We will shortly be launching our online vet shop which can be used for ordering repeat medication – details to follow!
We can also provide written prescriptions (for a fee) if you would prefer to buy your medication elsewhere.

What if my pet needs further tests or surgery?
We work closely with a network of local practices that are well-known to us and we are happy to arrange referral to one of these.
Being an independent practice gives us complete flexibility to do what is best for each individual client and pet.

My pet is poorly, what should I do?
If you are a client of ours, please call us in the first instance and we will assist wherever possible.
Our registered clients can access veterinary care 24/7 at Westway Vets’ West Road hospital in Newcastle for urgent care and emergencies that we are unable to help with personally.

Do you accept insurance claims?
Yes, we do; with the exception of Vetsure policies, we require payment upfront – your insurance provider will then reimburse you directly.

Can I use Doorstep Vet in addition to my existing vet?
Yes – Doorstep Vet welcomes clients who wish to use us for all their veterinary needs or as an additional service to their existing practice.
We will request copies of your pets’ records prior to our initial visit and are happy to share our records with your existing practice should you wish us to.

I have a new puppy/kitten – can I get any free insurance?
Yes – we can put you in touch with Vetsure who can provide 5 weeks’ free cover.

When are you open?
Our normal opening hours are 8:30am-5pm Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays. Most appointments take place between 9am and 4pm.
We are a new business; these opening hours will be reviewed regularly as we grow.
Thank you for reading – we look forward to meeting you and your pet(s) soon.

Our Happy Clients!

“Highly recommend, the van is equipped as well as any traditional vet surgery. Very convenient and professional. My dog had no anxiety about ‘going to the vet’ as it was on his doorstep! So many benefits for owners and pets.”
Sally

“I moved to Doorstep Vet recently. My large dog is very boisterous and trips to the vet waiting room were stressful. Saves me so much time with the home visits. My boy loved his first two visits… he jumped into the van last time they visited. Mobile surgery is astonishing! Highly recommended.”
Pamela

“Excellent service today. My nervous rescue dog was given all the time he needed to settle and get to know the team. Fantastic van fully kitted out and so clean! Thank you again.”
