VETERINARY SURGEON

GREAT PARK

CLOSING DATE – 2ND NOVEMBER 2026

Doorstep Vet is expanding, and we’re looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join us as we open our new practice in Great Park, Newcastle upon Tyne, in early 2027. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to help shape the future of our award-winning practice.

We are looking for a confident, enthusiastic Veterinary Surgeon to join our fantastic new practice in Great Park.

You’ll be working alongside a newly-appointed, experienced Clinical Lead Veterinary Surgeon, who will provide direct support where needed, as well as our existing team of vets, RVNs and client care coordinators who have been running our award-winning mobile service for the past 4 years.

We will offer 20-minute consultations as standard, giving you the time to provide proactive, high-quality clinical care rather than feeling rushed from one appointment to the next. This isn’t a practice starting from zero. Our established mobile service already generates a significant caseload of surgical, dental and diagnostic work, which will transition into Great Park from the beginning. This means the successful candidate will have the opportunity to undertake a meaningful surgical and dental caseload from the outset, alongside first-opinion consultations.

The practice

The new clinic will be a modern, purposefully designed, low-stress environment. A huge part of our ethos is that veterinary care should be as calm and positive an experience as possible for pets and their owners, and our approach puts patient welfare, low-stress handling and thoughtful clinical care at the centre of everything we do.

Facilities will include:

  • Three consulting rooms
  • Dedicated operating facilities
  • In-house laboratory
  • Digital X-ray
  • Dental facilities including dental X-ray
  • Separate dog and cat kennels
  • Preparation area
  • Modern equipment to support a broad range of first-opinion cases
Enjoy the best of both worlds

The role will be primarily based in our new clinic, with some time spent supporting the mobile side of the business.

Our mobile service offers a different pace and style of working, with longer appointment times, the opportunity to build closer relationships with clients and their pets, and a more personal approach to care. It offers a welcome contrast to the faster pace of a typical clinic environment, giving you the chance to enjoy a varied role that combines the best of both settings.

We believe this balance brings real variety to the working week, allowing you to enjoy the clinical opportunities and team environment of the practice alongside the more individual, relationship-led nature of mobile work.

Great Park and Northumberland

The practice itself is located in Great Park Town Centre, which sits at the heart of the thriving, family-friendly Great Park community.  Great Park is a rapidly growing, family-friendly suburb with shops, cafes and restaurants on the doorstep, while Newcastle city centre is only a few miles away. With Northumberland’s stunning coastline, countryside and outdoor spaces close by, it offers an excellent quality of life, combining the convenience of city living with easy access to some of the North East’s most beautiful surroundings.

What we offer:

  • Salary £40,000 to £65,000, depending on experience
  • 40-hour contracted week, including a paid lunch break
  • 20-minute consultations, allowing time for thorough, thoughtful care
  • No out-of-hours work
  • 6.6 weeks holiday per annum (including bank holidays)
  • Saturday mornings on a rota basis – likely 1:3 or 1:4 depending on team size at the outset
  • BUPA Private medical insurance
  • CPD encouraged and funded
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • Employer contribution Pension scheme
  • Employee discount scheme
  • Relocation allowance (subject to eligibility criteria)
  • The opportunity to be part of something exciting, and to help shape a brand-new independent practice in a beautiful part of the UK
  • A supportive, people-first culture

What we’re looking for:

  • An experienced RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon. 2+ years experience preferred
  • Ability to work sole charge when required
  • Confident in main aspects of first-opinion veterinary care including consultations, surgery, dentistry and imaging
  • Strong clinical skills and sound clinical judgement
  • Excellent communication skills with both clients and colleagues
  • A genuine passion for patient welfare and low-stress handling
  • A commitment to high clinical standards and excellent pro-active patient and client care
  • A clear enthusiasm for helping establish and shape a new practice
